So who’s watching Super Stars of Dance, the latest offering from So You Think You Can Dance Dance Revolution producer Nigel Lithgoe? Anybody? If not and you were considering it, let me save you the trouble…
It’s a train wreck of epic proportions.
Let’s leave aside the actual dancing for a second, the rest of the show is as compelling as warm, curdled milk. Visually, it’s wholly unpleasant. The production design makes the Revolution look like Cirque de Soleil. Michael Flately’s got zero aptitude for hosting duties and the chick from the Real World/Road Rules Challenge Reunion Specials has no business on network TV without her sash and crown.
The judges offer absolutely nothing positive to the experience. They are not knowledgeable on the forms they’re judging. They offer no insight, wit or wisdom (though I suspect if I stuck with it for the season, which I won’t, I’d be able to count from six to ten in Chinese, Russian and Hindi). Worst of all, each and every one of them has committed the cardinal sin of reality TV. Being totally fucking boring.
Now, there’s some good dancing on the show. I dig getting exposed to shit I’ve never seen before. The South African boot dancers were especially enjoyable. The idea of forms from around the world is a cool one and there are a million ways to have made a good show out of it, this just isn’t one of them. But as far as blogging goes, I was gonna let it slide as some sort of, I don’t know, deference to the Revolution.
But Dormeshia was robbed.
So, you know, fuck The Revolution.

I only saw Pasha and Anya’s number. It sufficed.
May I recommend the Canadian version of The Revolution? Totally worth checking out, imo.

I heard that it sucks. This confirms it.

Michael Flatley hosting? For serious? Just thinking about that cracks me up!

I’ve been watching it. I like the dances, the judges are useless. Having dvr makes the two hours go by faster. They seem to be employing the same camera and lighting people from SYTYCD. Bright lights in your face? Check. Random shots of the audience so you can’t watch the dancing? Check.
Sara is right. SYTYCD Canada was amazing. Go watch it now.

If watching SYTYCDDR Canada requires me to figure out bittorrent, I fear it will never happen. Otherwise, show me the way.

It does, but my boyfriend downloaded them for me. If you email me your address I can send you some dvds. You can consider it thanks for helping me avoid work during the day.

Oh yay! I miss discussing the Revolution. I predict many conversations concerning the Canadian version. It’s always interesting to learn your opinion, Becky.

I’ll expect some Canada posts! The only really sad thing about the Canadian version is the host is no Cat Deeley.
